This position will work toward improving health outcomes for children with developmental barriers to adequate nutrition. The Speech-Language Pathologist will work one-on-one to meet individual needs of children with sensory issues or food hesitancy that may lead to malnutrition, anemia, and weight issues. Position to last 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Provide speech and language consultation, coaching, modeling and training to Head Start team members and caregivers.
  • Conduct observations and consultation services in Head Start Classrooms to identify students with speech and language needs.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with Head Start Children to identify developmental barriers to nutrition and work on skills to overcome barriers.
  • Make home visits to families to discuss health problems of the children
  • Maintain records of all health services provided for the assigned children and forward records to the public school system
  • Attend Health Services Advisory Committee Meetings (normally semi-annually)
  • Compile health information and complete the appropriate health files for children.
  • Periodically attend Head Start parent meetings as a resource person in the health field.
  • May provide training and technical assistance (on-site, pre-service, in-service, workshops, etc.) to staff, classroom personnel, volunteers, and parents.
  • Provide/arrange nutrition and health-related training and information for Head Start parents and staff.
  • Visit all Head Start locations regularly to meet with Head Start Children, meet with parents and work with staff.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related field.
