Head Start Open House In Carlinville, IL

On Monday, February 10, 2020,  Illinois Valley Economic Development Corporation (IVEDC) held a grand opening for a new Head Start Building located at 610 North Charles Street in Carlinville designed to serve the needs of children in the central Macoupin County area.  Prior to the opening of the new building, IVEDC provided Head Start services for over two decades to the central Macoupin County area from a building leased from the Macoupin County Housing Authority.  The grand opening, attended by Deanna Demuzio, Mayor of Carlinville, Mike Kelly, IVEDC Executive Director, Dr. Becky Schuchman, CUSD #1 Superintendent and others, was the launch of a more spacious and updated classroom setting and an improved service model for IVEDC’s Head Start services.
Currently, the new building offers a center-based Head Start program for twenty (20) eligible students between the ages three (3) to five (5).  Additionally, the building has additional space for a Family and Community Development Specialists (FCD) who is responsible for enrolling eligible children into the center-based program and assisting eligible families with multiple services which include offering parenting classes, securing continuing educational opportunities for parents and enrolling families for home energy assistance.
Furthermore, the IVEDC Head Start facility houses home-based staff who operates a “Learn and Play” site.  This is an opportunity for socialization for families engaged in the Head Start “Home-Based Program” for eligible children between the ages of three (3) to five (5) and the “Early Head Start 0-3 program.
Also, while IVEDC is excited to open this renovated facility for serving Head Start families, it remains committed to making additional improvements to the facility.  For example, when weather permits, a new playground area specifically designed for small children will be installed in the front lawn of the facility.
If you are interested in learning more about opportunities related to the Head Start Program, please contact the IVEDC Head Start Program at either our central office in Gillespie at (217) 839-4431 ext. 244 or the Carlinville Head Start office at (217) 854-6736.

Richard Gere Shares His Meals on Wheels Memories

For Richard Gere, Meals on Wheels has always been about family. This Father’s Day, sign up to drop off a warm meal and create lifelong memories: AmericaLetsDoLunch.org

Posted by Meals on Wheels America on Tuesday, June 12, 2018

Did you know that Richard Gere and his dad have been involved with Meals on Wheels in Syracuse, NY, for decades?

Richard and his dad gave their time for Anomaly (our pro bono Ad Council ad agency) to produce this beautiful reflection of their Meals on Wheels experience. With donated media from Facebook that will run through Sunday, it has already been viewed nearly 250K times!

Thanks to Ameren’s generosity, we can better support our network and delivery system to those in need of energy assistance, home weatherization, and other services.  Ameren truly lives out their mission “To Power the Quality of Life.”

Thank you, @subaru_usa, for the continued generosity and support of the homebound seniors that we serve. #MealsOnWheels programs across the country and Illinois Valley Economic Development Corporation thank you!
